Federal Reserve Balance Sheet


The Fed purchased $80.7bn of Treasuries since Nov 10th

Following the schedule published on November 10th, the Fed has completed 13 Open Market Operations (OMOs) constituting a cumulative $80.7bn of purchases of Treasury securities, representing a level towards the upper end of the projected schedule. A new schedule of purchases is expected to be released by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York on December 10th. In the past week as of December 1st, the maturity distribution of the Fed's holdings of Treasury securities focused on the 1 to 5 years maturity. The Fed increased its holdings of 1 to 5 year Treasuries by $10.8bn and of 5 to 10 year Treasuries by $2.2bn. As of December 1st, the Fed held $917bn in Treasuries, up from $837bn on October 28th, before the announcement of a second round of Large Scale Asset Purchases (LSAPs). The Fed's total holdings of mortgage-backed securities (MBS) decreased from $1.051tr on October 28th to $1.022tr on December 1st. Most spreads are stable compared to two months ago, with the exception of the HELOC spread.
